Shattered Dreams, Africa and the world
For many years, African writers have tried to challenge the idea of Africa as a hunger zone.
Many have perceived Africa as a poor continent, where food is expensive, there is high mortality rate and most importantly, the world's cruelest leaders who parade themselves as democrats.
But here is the problem;as pointed out by globally acclaimed, Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her viral Ted talk, THE DANGERS OF A SINGLE STORY, Africa has ever since been seen as a poverty stricken continent.
This has led African writers to publish hundreds and hundreds of articles, trying to repair what was broken. The aim is no longer to bring forth the rich cultural heritage of the continent but to challenge the single story of poverty in Africa.
However, my novel, Shattered Dreams, agrees with the West about the poverty stricken nature of Africa and the bad leadership ravaging the continent. But the West doesn't go scot free as the characters of my novel, Shattered Dreams, point accusing fingers towards the West for the corruption going on in the African continent.
While my novel, Shattered Dreams, agrees with this fact,it also exposes one thing the world has ignored. It exposes the resilient spirit of the people of Africa.
My novel, Shattered Dreams, agrees with the West on the issue of poverty and bad leadership. However,it points to the fact that the African people has the spirit of resilience, persistence, belief and revolution which can never be found anywhere in the world.
This can be judged by the number of people who has risen from dust in Africa to global limelight. In music, Africa has produced Tyla, Davido, Wizkid,Rema and many others.
In literature, Africa has produced the greatest and mightiest heroes who have used their pen to challenge the stereotypes placed on Africa.
Some of these people include:
☑️ Chinua Achebe, the father of African literature.
☑️ Wole Soyinka, the first Nobel Laureate.
☑️ Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, global feminist, literary, cultural and fashion icon.
☑️ Nnedi Okoroafor, the most sought after fantasy author in Africa.
☑️ Tomi Adeyemi, writing coach and the brain behind the bestselling Legacy of Orisha trilogy.
☑️ Chigozie Obioma, global thinker and literary icon.
☑️ Ngugi wa'thiongo, global thinker, literary icon and intellectual.
☑️ Buchi Emecheta, feminist and literary icon.
☑️ Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani, journalist, humorist and literary icon.
And so many others.
This is what Shattered Dreams points out. Shattered Dreams proves that Africa's assets no longer lies on it's resources but on it's people.
While it points this out,it also points to the spirit of revolution. It also foresees a future where Africa will be free from ethnic crisis and bad leadership.
