Shattered Dreams, Africa and the world
For many years, African writers have tried to challenge the idea of Africa as a hunger zone. Many have perceived Africa as a poor continent, where food is expensive, there is high mortality rate and most importantly, the world's cruelest leaders who parade themselves as democrats. But here is the problem;as pointed out by globally acclaimed, Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie in her viral Ted talk, THE DANGERS OF A SINGLE STORY, Africa has ever since been seen as a poverty stricken continent. This has led African writers to publish hundreds and hundreds of articles, trying to repair what was broken. The aim is no longer to bring forth the rich cultural heritage of the continent but to challenge the single story of poverty in Africa. However, my novel, Shattered Dreams, agrees with the West about the poverty stricken nature of Africa and the bad leadership ravaging the continent.
