Shattered Dreams is a story about a young timid but highly intelligent boy, Chikadibia, who is destined to liberate the people of Umuaga from an age old tyranny. The novel is set in an imaginary country in West Africa during the 19th century.

I call Shattered Dreams "a novel written for Africa" because it was written for the love of the African continent. It was written to create an image of the corruption and bad leadership in the continent.

Of course, there are good leaders in Africa. However, the bad leaders in the continent have outnumbered the good ones. And it is quite unfortunate for a continent as old as Africa.

I wrote Shattered Dreams to address the issues of colonialism and neocolonialism which has befallen the motherland. Africa,a victim of colonialism, has suffered from the modern day slavery called neocolonialism. Although the mighty countries of the world might deny this, Africa has always been a toy to be played with. She has always been a tool to be used in the hands of these mighty countries.

In Shattered Dreams, the writer understands the pains of the African people. He also acknowledged that the bad leadership in the continent has led to series of agitations across the continent. For example,in Nigeria, Southeast Nigeria continually agitated for independence since 1967. This has led to a civil war, harsh economic conditions and fear of marginalisation in the region.

The writer, while pointing out these problems, understood that the youth are the leaders of today and not tomorrow. Hence,he made use of teenagers as the main characters in the third part of the novel, Shattered Dreams.

Shattered Dreams is a novel that speaks of the evils in the society. It also profers solutions to these problems.

It is therefore not surprising that the author chose to call it "a novel written for Africa". Indeed, Shattered Dreams is a novel written for Africa. The rest of the world can catch up if they want to 😁 But of course, they will.
