In a world where noise is seen as the only way to get visibility and noise equates to greatness, some people are showing up and doing great things silently.
Globally acclaimed Nigerian American novelist, Nnedi Okoroafor, just won the 2026 NAACP image award for Outstanding Literary Fiction.
Nnedinma Nkemdili Okoroafor,an Afro fantasy author,coined the words,"Afrojujuism" and "Afrofuturism". These terms might sound alike but she has made it clear that they are not the same.
Nnedi Okoroafor is the pioneer of African fantasy. She has won awards like the Hugo award,Nebula award, Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature and most recently, the NAACP image award for Outstanding Literary Fiction. She has also made it to bestseller lists like the New York Times bestseller list.
Nnedi Okoroafor's novel, Death of the Author, was published in 2025 and honestly, the novel is fire 🔥
Death of the Author,a novel which sold seven figures,is the story of a young disabled woman,Zelu,whose novel becomes a global hit. However, she is not prepared for the pains that comes with becoming a global figure.
People have tried to categorize Nnedi Okoroafor's novel, Death of the Author. However,it falls into the autobiography. This is because it points to most of her challenges and struggles. Infact,in this novel,a number of details is revealed about her life. No spoilers. You should read the novel yourself.
I decided to write about Nnedi Okoroafor on this blog which is a companion blog of my novel, Shattered Dreams, because of the respect I have for her.
She has accomplished a lot for herself. She has changed the world's view of Africa's cultural heritage.
Most importantly, I admire Nnedi Okoroafor because of how she carries herself. And yes, she has never forgotten that African and Nigerian part of her.
